Razors & Blades
Did you know that safety razors have actually been around since the early 1900’s? They were the next evolution of the straight razor and dominated the market all the way up until the 1970’s when the first cartridge razors were introduced. The safety razor consists of a sturdy handle and head that houses a thin double-sided razor blade. The blade is mostly shielded by a guard that exposes a very small portion of the blade that protects your skin from cuts. The best thing about a safety razor is that once you have one, the only thing you need to replace is an inexpensive razor blade, rather than a costly disposable cartridge.
Just like any razor, it contains very sharp blades, which can cut you if used incorrectly. With some guidance and a little practice, using a safety razor is quite safe. Remember to use a quality shave oil or shave soap and hold the razor at a 30 degree angle as you slowly glide the razor head over your skin, being careful to not apply too much pressure.
Yes, we truly believe this. A single blade razor has less risk of causing skin irritation and ingrown hairs when compared to cartridge razors. Plus, shaving with a quality shave oil or shave soap with natural ingredients will definitely benefit your skin! We have gone into a lot more detail on the better for your skin page.
It sure is. This is due to the simple fact that the vast majority of standard disposable cartridge razors are not easily recycled. The complex construction and combinations of tightly integrated materials make recycling cartridge razors very hard and often result in them being placed in landfill. Nära razors on the other hand, use one simple blade that is made from stainless steel. If you store all your used blades in a Nära Blade Bank, you can simply recycle the entire container once it’s full. No wastage and nothing in landfill. We have gone into a lot more detail on the eco-friendly alternative page.
The cost of a razor blade for a Nära safety razor is dramatically cheaper than a standard cartridge razor. We have run the numbers and you can see how much you can save over on the low-cost shaving page.
The handle is made from solid brass and the guard and cap are made from zinc alloy. These materials make for a durable razor that will last for years to come.
If looked after properly, your Nära safety razor should last at least 5 years. Remember to thoroughly rinse and dry the razor after each use and store in a dry place.
Thoroughly rinse and dry the razor after each use and store in a dry place. Occasionally disassemble the razor and clean each piece individually.
We have partnered with a quality manufacturer in China to produce our razors. We ensure our partner’s manufacturing process of our products is conducted ethically and sustainably with no excess packaging or wastage.
We have chosen to supply Astra blades while our own blades are in production. Astra blades are made from stainless steel with a thin platinum coating which enhances and protects the cutting edge of the blade. Astra is a superior product with a strong reputation and is why we proudly stock them.
We recommend changing the blade every 5-10 shaves, depending on the thickness of your hair and the surface area you are shaving. If you start to notice the razor scraping your skin and not cutting as effectively, you know it’s time to change the blade. Changing the blade regularly ensures you are getting the smoothest shave possible without any irritation. Remember, if you are storing your used blades in a Nära Blade Bank these used blades are 100% recyclable!
We recommend keeping your used blades in a Nära Blade Bank. This Blade Bank is a fully sealed receptacle made from tinplate with a small slot in the top, where you drop your used razor blades. What makes the Blade Bank so great is that once it’s full of used razor blades, the entire tin becomes 100% recyclable. Remember to contact your local recycling service provider for your specific recycling guidelines, as different locations will have slightly different rules.

We’re glad you asked. It may seem a little strange but there is a great reason why we choose this packaging material. As we are committed to providing sustainable shaving products, we have chosen to use aluminium bottles that are light, durable and completely recyclable. Aluminium is great because it can be recycled again and again with no degradation, whereas some plastics degrade the more times they are recycled. A simple aluminium screw cap also helps reduce packaging waste, as plastic pumps often contain springs and other metal parts that make them difficult to recycle.
Absolutely yes. All our products are cruelty free, ethically sound and never tested on animals.
